<p>Dervin Taylor enters his 13th season as Adams State Univeristy's head softball coach (2020). <br /> <br /> Coach Taylor led the Grizzlies to two consecutive RMAC West Championships where the team posted the best record for ASC softball since joining NCAA Division II (1992-Present).</p> <p>In 2008, the team had the Daktronics National Player of the Year, RMAC Player of the Year, and ESPN 1st team Academic All-American. the squad also had two All-Americans, three first team All-District players, six All-Conference players, four RMAC Players of the Week, and two members on the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Squad. In 2009 the Grizzlies added three All-Conference players, one RMAC Pitcher of the Week, and three RMAC Players of the Week.</p> <p>In 2010, the Grizzlies had the RMAC Freshman of the Year recipient while also placing three to the All-Conference team. The Grizzlies had three named to the All-Region team and an Acedemic All-American recipient.<br /> <br /> Since taking the helm for the Grizzlies, the softball team has made it to the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament all but two years. In addition, they have made it to the championship game twice, but finished second in each game.</p> <p>Before his tenure as head coach at Adams State, Taylor had coached club softball for the Colorado QuickSilver for the past 14 years and also led the Rampart High School program, which finished third in the league while making the district playoffs. he got his start with the Rocky Mountain Storm Club Team.</p> <p>Taylor’s club teams have produced more than 30 players that have gone on to play college softball, including several at Division I schools.  Former ASC pitcher Megan Roberts (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), a senior in 2008, and Mandie Roark (Colorado Springs, Colo.), a 3-time Honorable Mention All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference player who graduated in 2007, are amongst that group.</p> <p>While coaching QuickSilver teams, ranging from 12 & Under to 18 & Under, Taylor was also the head coach at Sierra High School for nine years.  While there, Taylor turned the Stallions into a winning program that advanced to the state playoffs three times.  He was also named as the Colorado Springs <em>Gazette-Telegraph’s</em> Coach of the Year in 2001.</p> <p>Taylor was also the head baseball coach at Sierra and also has coaching experience in football and basketball.</p> <p>A Harrison High School graduate, Taylor played football for four years at the University of Southern Colorado, now known as Colorado State University-Pueblo.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in recreation with a minor in social services from USC in 1983.</p>
