Doris Sullivan will move from her role as an assistant coach for the Adams State men’s soccer team to the post of Head Women’s Soccer Coach, announced Athletics Director Larry Mortensen.

“We’re very pleased that Doris will be taking over as the women’s head coach,” said Mortensen. "She was an asset for the men’s team this past season, and she brings in a great amount of valuable experience.”

Sullivan joined the Grizzly men’s team as an assistant coach for the fall 2011 season, and helped the ASC men to post their best season in the program’s 3-year history.

“I’m really excited to have this opportunity and I think there’s a great foundation for (the women’s soccer) team,” Sullivan said. “They had a good season this fall and there’s some very good young talent. I can’t wait to really get started and working with them.”

Prior to joining the Grizzlies, Sullivan pulled double-duty for seven seasons as an assistant at Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Mich., while also serving as the girls’ head coach at Williamston High School. Her Williamston teams enjoyed a great deal of success, playing in two state championship games (2008 & 2010), and also advancing to the state semifinals while posting an overall record of 23-2 in 2006.

During the fall of 2011 with Sullivan, the Adams State men’s soccer team posted a record of 3-12-2 and 2-11-1 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC). Three wins were the most in a season for the Grizzly men, while their 4-0 win against Texas-Permian Basin on Sept. 9 was the first non-conference win, and first shutout in program history.

The Grizzlies also won a school record two games in RMAC play, both against Colorado Christian, and earned their first win or tie against a league team besides CCU when they played to a 1-1 draw against UC-Colorado Springs on Oct. 23.

Sullivan graduated from Olivet College in Olivet, Mich., in 2002 with a bachelor’s degree in Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. Her 62 career goals and 147 career points both continue to rank second in the Olivet record books, and she was twice named a First Team All-Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) performer.

Prior to attending Olivet, Sullivan was a 4-year starter and all-conference player at Lansing Catholic High School, and was a member of the All-State Dream Team as a senior.
