Biography
Prep
- Socorro HS record holder in the 100 fly (1:02.17), 100 back (1:05.44) individual events
- Set those times en-route to 7th and 11th place finishes, respectively, at 2010 all-classificiation state championships
- Was a 4-time state finalist in the 100 fly, placing seventh as an 8th grader in 2006, 4th in 2008 and 7th in 2009
- Also won the consolation final in that event taking 9th for the Diedra Vinson coached Warriors
- Held the district record from 2008-10
- Was the district champion as a sophomore in 2008 before finishing second in 2009 and 2010
- Was also the district runner-up in the 100 back in 2008
- Placed 15th at state that year before finishing 10th as a junior in 2009
- Also swam multiple relays at state championships, placing 13th in both the 200 medley and 200 free relays as a senior in 2010
- Also made the consolation finals of the state meet in the 500 free (2007)
- Has other best times of 2:21.87 (200 fly), 2:25.78 (200 back), 4:57.68 (400 IM), 57.70 (100 free), 2:05.40 (200 free) and 5:35.15 (500 free)
- The 100 and 200 free times came during the 2010 season
- Also lettered in soccer three times after helping the team win three district crowns
- Was a 2-year letter-winner in track as an 800, 1600 and 3,200-meter runner
Club
- Swam for coach Hess Ynetema and Duke City Aquatics since 2008
- Had been with Yntema at Kirtland Aquatic Club from 2001-08
- Was the 2002 and 2004 High Point State Champion
- Was the high point runner-up four times
- Member of the New Mexico Zone Team
- Placed seventh in the 200 IM at the Far Westers in 2001
- Finished the Pacific Open Water Challenge 5K in 1:15 in 200
- Had posted a time of 57 minutes in the 5K at the 2008 New Mexico Zone Meet
Academics
- Finished high school with a 4.37 GPA
- Was on the Academic Honor Roll throughout her career
- Also a 3-year member of student council, the National Honor Society and the renaissance council
Personal
- Daughter of Earl P. and Laura Higgs
- Sister Alyssa, 22, swam at New Mexico for one year and is currently on the Lobos' triathlon team
