Overall Record: 27-9
Kelly had an explosive regular season ending in a record of 23-7 sending him to the RMAC Championships where he went 3-0 giving him 1st place… His record of 23-7 launched him into the NCAA Championships where he went 1-2.Â
2011-12 Match-by-Match
2010-11 (As a Sophomore): Redshirt season... Competed unattached in four tournaments and compiled a record of 11-9... Placed 4th at the Dec. 4 Fort Hays State Bob Smith Open, posting a 4-2 record with wins against 5th-seeded Darren Stow of Air Force and 3rd-seeded Justin Morris of Western State... Placed 6th at the Jan. 29 Rocky Mountain Collegiate Open.
As a Freshman (2009-10): Posted a 20-9 record at 149 pounds… Began the year as a redshirt competing in three early season tournaments unattached… Placed third at the Wyoming Cowboy Open (Nov. 14) with a 5-1 mark… Went 5-2 eight days later to place fifth at the Old Chicago Northern Colorado Open (Nov. 22)… Also posted a 3-2 mark at the Dec. 5 Fort Hays State Bob Smith Open… Had his redshirt pulled early in 2010 to wrestle throughout the heart of the Grizzlies’ dual-meet season… Went 6-2 in those duals, including a 5-2 mark in RMAC action… Scored 21 team points in the duals, giving up just six… Went 1-2 at the NCAA Division II Super Regional/RMAC Championships that the Grizzlies hosted on Feb. 27… Was the third seed for that tournament… Won three matches by fall throughout the campaign.
Prep: 2-time individual state champion for coaches Tim Ottmann and Corey McNellis and the Ponderosa HS Bruins… Won titles as a senior in 2009 and a junior in 2008… Wrestled at 145 pounds in both of those years… Went 41-2 as a senior and 37-4 as a junior… Posted a 36-6 record as a sophomore finishing third at state in the 130-pound bracket… Had a 41-8 and a third place finish as a freshman in 2006 at 112 pounds… Finished his career with a 155-20 cumulative record… Helped the team go 124-0 in dual-meets during his time… The Bruins won seven straight state titles, including during all four of his years.
Academics: Is majoring in Physical Education with a minor in coaching and has future plans to be a teacher.
Off the Mat: Born 10/29/90 to Dan and Lisa Kelly… Sisters Jennifer and Marie are 31 and 30, respectively… Brothers David and Steven are 26 and 20, respectively… Enjoys art… Favorite movie is Pulp Fiction… Favorite food is salmon… Favorite professional sports team is the Denver Broncos.
