Men's Soccer Drops Match To Orediggers, 3-1

ASU returns to play Metropolitan State University of Denver on Sunday

ALAMOSA, Colo. (October 10, 2014) -- The Adams State University Grizzlies men's soccer team lost today in their match against Colorado School of Mines by a score of 3-1 this afternoon at home. ASU's record now stands at 1-9, 0-7 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play. On the other hand, Colorado School of Mines improves to 7-4, 5-2 in RMAC play.

For Mines their scoring affair started at the 33:07 mark when freshman striker Nikolaus Grotz, provided the Orediggers with a short-lived 1-0 lead over the Grizzlies. The Grizzlies responded 3 minutes later, when Shane Wagner assisted Ethan Jackson for a goal. Jackson now leads the Grizzlies with 3 goals on the season.
 
The game was tied going into the half.  Mines outshot ASU 7-3 in the first half.
 
In the second half, the Orediggers Joe Haines took over the match by scoring two goals. The Grizzlies could not find an answer to stop Harines who scored twice in a ten minute span, once at the 63:19 mark and then later at the 70:00 minute mark. The powerful combination of both Haines and Grotz combined for eight shots on the day.
 
As a result, ASU was outshot 15-8 for the game and 8-2 on shots on goal. Goalkeeper Austin Baumeister had 5 saves for the Grizzlies, while allowing 3 goals.
 
Adams State will play #19 ranked Metro State University of Denver on October 12th at home on the ASU Soccer Field.
