ALAMOSA, Colo. (October 10, 2014) -- The Adams State University women's soccer team lost today in their match against New Mexico Highlands University by a score of 1-0. Unlike the previous Grizzly loses, offense was not the issue for the Grizzlies today. A strong performance from NMHU goalkeeper Sarah Beecher is what sealed the deal for the opposing Cowgirls victory.
Â
Adams State fell behind early at the 18 minute when NMHU striker Anyssa Dagnino netted a goal past ASU freshman goalkeeper
Molly O'Connor. Prior to the NMHU goal, the Grizzlies had four shots on goal in the match's first 20 minutes. Dezira Armijo took two of the four shots, while
Laci Jones and Beth Hightower each took a shot a piece. With that being said, NMHU went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Â
Adams State outshot New Mexico Highlands 6-5 in the first half.
Â
To start the second half, Highlands played possession against the Grizzlies, only taking two shots for the remainder of the game. None of the shots were on target. Adams facing a sense of urgency took seven shots in the second half but all were saved by Beecher, including the lost shot with less than 30 seconds in the match.
Â
Beecher had 11 saves on the day, a NMHU record. O'Connor had 3 saves for the Grizzlies while allowing one goal.
Â
Adams State now stands at 1-8-2 overall, 0-5-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play.
