Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Late Goal Sends Women's Soccer To 1-0 Defeat

Grizzlies now 1-9-2 overall

ALAMOSA, Colo. (October 12, 2014) - A late goal in the waning minutes of today's game was the deciding factor in the match between the Adams State University Grizzlies woman's soccer team and fellow Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) rival the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves. The visiting ThunderWolves stole today's victory away from the Grizzlies via a goal from striker Kacie Licata who scored at the 84:24 minute mark.

With today's loss, the Grizzlies fall to 1-9-2 overall on the season and 0-6-2 in RMAC play.

The Grizzlies were not only tested by CSU-Pueblo but the harsh weather as well which effected both teams. The game was delayed twice due to lightning in the area.

With the combination of poor conditions and a strong ThunderWolves defense, the Grizzlies were unable to take advantage of the opportunities given to them. The Grizzlies had three shots on goal in the first half of the game, two by Shelby McBain and one from Dezirae Armijo.

Adams State out shot CSU-Pueblo by a 4-3 margin in the opening half, however all of the ThunderWolves' strikes were on goal.  CSU-Pueblo also had five corner kicks compared to the Adams State's one.

The second half proved to be much of the same result as the first, and right when things seemed to be heading to overtime, CSU-Pueblo's Licata flipped the script with a goal with less than six minutes left in the regulation.

The Grizzlies were given two opportunities to equalize in the last three minutes of the game but failed to capitalize. A corner shot from Armijo came up empty with an ASU foul and strike by McBain went wide from the goal with four seconds left in the game.

Molly O'Connor played goalie for the Grizzlies today, totaling three saves with one allowed goal. ASU will play Colorado Mesa University next at the ASU Soccer field on October 17th.
