ALAMOSA, Colo. (October 25, 2014) - The Adams State University Grizzlies women's soccer team won yesterday in their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) match between the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs Mountain Lions by a score of 3-0. With the victory, the Grizzlies improve their record to 3-10-2, 2-7-2 in RMAC play. The Cougars fall to 6-8, 5-6 in RMAC play.
The Grizzlies have now won their past two home matches.
The Grizzlies, still mathematically alive for the RMAC Tournament, kept their dreams alive by completely dominating the Mountain Lions in every aspect of the game. Offensively ASU had one of their best outputs of the season scoring three goals in the second half within a span of 25 minutes. Neither team was able to score in the first half, however ASU did outshout UCCS by a 3-1 margin. ASU had two corner attempts to the Mountain Lions one. UCCS had one shot attempt on goal by Hope Whitman but her shot was saved by ASU goalkeeper
Molly O'Connor.
The second half is when things started to roll for the Grizzlies.
Alex Sanderson had her first brace on the season, scoring two goals in a nine minute span. She scored her first goal at the 51:10 mark on a non-assisted goal , while her second goal was assisted by
Hope Cruz at the 58:11 mark. At the 74:44 minute mark,
Shelby McBain scored her first goal of the season to cap off the scoring for ASU. O'Connor had two more saves in the second half, bringing her total to three for the game.
ASU will play Regis University on October 26
th, in Denver, Colo. in what will prove to be a pivotal game for keeping Adams States' RMAC tournament hopes alive.
