GOLDEN, Colo. (October 5, 2014) – Offense was difficult to produce on Sunday as the Adams State University Grizzlies women's soccer team was defeated, 2-0, against the No. 4 Colorado School of Mines Orediggers.
Adams State now stands at 1-7-2 overall and 0-4-2 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play.
Despite failing to score in this RMAC tilt, the Grizzly defense made the match difficult for the fourth-ranked Orediggers. Freshman goalkeeper Molly O'Connor collected seven saves with her only two blemishes coming in the 19th and 51st minute. CSM's Laya Rybicki put the Orediggers on the board at 18:30 with the assist from Emily Garnier. Julia Hawn added the second, and final, goal at 50:33 after receiving a short feed from Rachael Turner at the penalty arc.
ASU was held scoreless for their second consecutive match but did record eight shots as Alex Sanderson, Laci Jones, Bethany Hightower, and Dezirae Armijo each put a shot on goal.
In her last three starts, O'Connor has 22 saves. During that span she picked up her second collegiate shutout in a 0-0 draw with Fort Lewis College on Oct. 1.
The Grizzlies return home for two matches during the program's Family Weekend. First up will be New Mexico Highlands University on Oct. 10 at 4:00 p.m. followed by Colorado State University-Pueblo on Oct. 12 at 12:00 p.m.
