ALAMOSA, Colo. (November 1, 2014) – The Adams State University Grizzlies men's soccer team lost yesterday in their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) match vs the Colorado State University-Pueblo ThunderWolves by a score of 1-0. For the Grizzlies, it marks their 15
th consecutive loss and pushes their season record to 1-15, 0-13 in RMAC play. The ThunderWolves improve their record to 6-11, 5-8 in RMAC play.
The Grizzlies were unable to formulate any sort of offensive attack while defensively also keeping at bay a ThunderWolves' strong offensive unit that had six shots on target in the first half.
Austin Baumeister had nine saves for the day while allowing one goal in 90:00 minutes of play. In the last two matches, Baumeister has had 19 saves and is proving himself to be a valuable member of the defensive unit.
The lone goal of yesterday's match came from CSU-P's Matt Marchena who scored near the conclusion of the first half. Finding a sense of urgency, the Adams State offensive unit started to find their stride in the second half however no strike on goal was able to materialize into an equalizer. The Grizzlies finished the last few minutes of the game with two shots on goal from
Aaron Fox and Cody Wesienberger.
The Grizzlies were outshot by a 12-11 margin but ASU showed more aggression in the second half with eight shots. ASU will play Colorado School of Mines in Golden, Colo. at 2:30 p.m. and will serve as the season finale.
