ALAMOSA, Colo. (November 20, 2014) – After an exhibition game, the Adams State University men's basketball team returns to Plachy Hall for a pair of non-conference games before Thanksgiving break.

The Grizzlies will host a pair of teams from the National Association Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) ranks beginning with a Nov. 21 meeting against the Langston University Lions followed by a Nov. 25 game with the Northern New Mexico College Eagles. Both games are slated for a 7:30 p.m. tip off.

Last Time Out For GrizzliesDespite a slow start, Adams State made things interesting against the University of Nevada Wolf Pack in an exhibition contest on Nov. 17. In the closing minutes the Grizzlies reached within one possession on numerous occasions.
Shakir Smith drained two free throws with 30 seconds left to tighten the gap at 64-62. Nevada went on to sink five crucial free throws while the Grizzlies had a costly turnover down the stretch; bringing the game to its final score of 69-64.

After shooting 25 percent (8-32) from the floor in the opening stanza, ASU went on to shoot 41 percent (15-36) and hold the edge in second chance points (18-8), fast break points (4-0), bench points (10-1), and points in the paint (20-12) after halftime. Individually, Smith had a game-high 21 points while
Michael Middlebrooks added 14 points and 12 rebounds.

Scouting The LionsLangston enters Alamosa with a 2-0 record with wins over Southwestern Christian and Oklahoma City University. Both contests were won by 10 or more points. Under the direction of first year head coach Stan Holt, the Lions are led on the court by guards Karon Abraham and Curtis Jones at 16.5 ppg and 16.0 ppg., respectively. Abraham is a NCAA Division I transfer from Robert Morris University (Penn.). Through two games, Langston averages 77.0 ppg. while giving up 64.5 ppg. The Lions are a member of the Red River Athletic Conference.

Scouting The EaglesNorthern New Mexico College, a NAIA Division II school, carry a 4-2 record (as of 11/20). The Eagles have eclipsed the 100 point thresehold twice already and average a robust 87.2 ppg. Four players currently average double figures led by Gabriel Martinez with 19.3 ppg. As a team, Northern New Mexico ranks second in three-pointers made per game (4.167) at the NAIA Division II level. With their current road trip, the Eagles will/have faced four RMAC schools (Fort Lewis College, UCCS, Colorado Mesa University, and Adams State University).
