Grizzlies Score Early; Hold For 1-1 Tie Against Roadrunners

Women's soccer gives No. 23 scare on Friday afternoon

Alamosa, Colo. (September 26, 2014) -- The Adams State University women's soccer team battled to a 1-1 tie this afternoon against the No. 23 ranked Metropolitan State University of Denver from the ASU Soccer Field.  Adams State's record now stands at 1-5-1 overall and 0-2-1 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play.  Metro State's record now stands moves to 4-1-2, 1-0-2 RMAC.

The Grizzlies scored early in the first half at the 6:53 mark with a goal by redshirt freshman Courtney Miknis--her first of the season. The goal was assisted by senior defender Alex Sanderson. The Grizzlies kept the 1-0 lead until midway through the second half when Metro's Mari Ipock scored on a penalty kick to tie the conference affair at 1-1.  The outcome remained unchanged through a pair of 10 minute overtime periods thus resulting in ASU's first tie of the season.

Adams State outshot MSU 11-9 for the match while Grizzly goalkeeper Molly O'Connor collect four saves.

Adams State plays next on Sept. 28th against Western State Colorado University from Gunnison. The Mountaineers record stands at 4-0-3, 1-0-2 RMAC.
