SPEARFISH, S.D. (January 2, 2015) – Michael Middlebrooks notched a season-high 20 points off 10-of-13 shooting as Adams State University downed Black Hills State University, 68-58, on Friday night. Middlebrooks also added seven rebounds, an assist, and a block as the Grizzlies obtained their first road win in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) action.
The win improves ASU to 5-4 overall and 2-4 in conference play. BHSU falters to 4-9, 2-5 RMAC in only their second home defeat of the season.
The Grizzlies collected 36 points off the bench and 24 off turnovers and controlled the lead for the duration of the game after the 19:03 mark in the opening stanza. ASU began on a 13-4 run as the team shot 56 percent (14-25) from the field before halftime. The Yellow Jackets narrowed the ASU lead to five at 37-32 early in the second half but the Grizzlies soon grew their lead into double figures to swat away any BHSU comeback attempt.
Adams State obtained their largest lead of 16 with a
Shakir Smith fastbreak layup with 10:04 remaining in the game. Smith concluded his night with nine points and four assists as
Marcus Hall added eight points and four assists.
Mike Hemsley and
Juwan Buchanan each finished with eight points, respectively.
Riley Ryan led Black Hills State with 14 points off 5-of-8 shooting.
