WREST | Adams State Preps For Two Home Duals This Week

#19 Colorado Mesa and #11 Western State make way to Alamosa to face ASU. Alamosa High School to precede collegiate dual on Thursday against Centauri High School

ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 20, 2015) – The Adams State University wrestling program takes to the mat twice this week with home duals against #19 Colorado Mesa University on Wednesday and #11 Western State Colorado University on Thursday. Adding to the festivities will be a dual between Alamosa High School and Centauri High School on Thursday at 5:00 p.m. That high school event will precede the ASU vs. WSCU dual.

For Adams State, Mario Garcia is coming off his first win of the season last week at Colorado State University-Pueblo. At 174, Mark Mabry, Jr. looks to build on his 11-10 overall record.  Jerry Huff, who enters as the third-ranked wrestler in the nation at 125, looks to keep his momentum in place after posting a crushing tech fall last week at CSU-Pueblo.

Colorado Mesa enters Plachy Hall Gym with a 7-0 overall dual mark and a 3-0 record in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) action. The Mavericks are led by James Martinez at 157 who carries a 27-2 overall record. Martinez is currently ranked third in the nation in his weight class.

Western State bares a similar record at 7-1, 3-0 RMAC. The Mountaineers possess three ranked wrestlers in #2 Elliott Copeland (174), #5 Kyle Piatt (184), and #6 Sam Mangum (197). Thus far the trio has combined for a 43-12 overall record including 12 falls.

As previously mentioned, Alamosa High School will compete as part of Thursday's doubleheader. As a team, Alamosa recently posted a middle of the pack finish at the Alamosa Invitational which consisted of 11 teams.
