MBB Preview | Colorado Mines & Colorado Christian

ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 21, 2015) – After a 1-1 road split last weekend, Adams State University welcomes No. 9 Colorado School of Mines and  Colorado Christian University to Plachy Hall Gym. Both conference tilts are slated for a 7:30 p.m. tip off on Friday and Saturday. Live coverage of the games will be made available for fans unable to attend.

Last Time Out
Senior Juwan Buchanan had a career-high 32 points in a hard fought 84-80 loss against Metropolitan State University of Denver on Jan. 16. The Grizzlies trailed by 10 with 1:41 remaining before bursting out to an 8-0 run. Adams State had an opportunity to tie but a Shakir Smith layup did not sink through the bottom of the nylon. Adding to his 32 points, Buchanan added four steals, three assists, and two rebounds.

ASU redeemed themselves against Regis University the following night in the form of a convincing 74-60 win. The Grizzlies never trailed against the Rangers and led by as much as 24 late in the second half. Three Grizzlies tallied double figures led by Travante Williams' 17 points off 7-of-8 shooting including a 3-for-3 mark from three-point territory.

About The Orediggers
As the ninth-ranked team in NCAA Division II, Colorado Mines has stormed out to a 14-1, 10-1 RMAC record. However, the Orediggers are coming off their lone loss of the season at home, 80-71, against Colorado State University-Pueblo. The Orediggers possess four reliable scoring threats in Brian Muller (14.8 ppg), Gokul Naesan (13.8 ppg.), Trevor Ritchie (13.5 ppg.), and Caleb Waitsman(12.8 ppg.). Colorado Mines shoots a conference-best 41 percent from three. On the other side of the ball they give up 65.5 ppg. which ranks second in the RMAC.

About The Cougars
At 9-8, 6-5 RMAC , Colorado Christian sits one spot below Adams State in the conference standings. Their visit to Alamosa is the program's first road game since Jan. 3. Since then, CCU has gone 2-2 at home with wins over Regis and Colorado State University-Pueblo. The Cougars hang their hat on defense by allowing 67.7 ppg. It's been an up-and-down season for CCU who was narrowly defeated by Colorado Mines but fell to a 3-12 Western State Colorado University squad on Jan. 3. Michael Brown leads the team with 17.2 ppg. That offensive output ranks eighth amongst all RMAC players.

Last We Met
It was a 2-0 sweep last season as ASU posted an 89-75 win against Colorado Mines and a 103-91 win over Colorado Christian. The two victories came on the road and in consecutive nights. In each game ASU had five players finish in double figures. The 103 points scored against CCU was the second highest point total for the program during the 2013-14 season.
