ALAMOSA, Colo. January 22, 2015)—The Adams State University Grizzlies women's basketball returns back to action this weekend after playing their previous two games on the road. Their next games will be played against the Colorado School of Mines (Jan. 23) and Colorado Christian College (Jan. 24) at home from Plachy Hall. Both matchups are scheduled for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff. Both games are Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) matchups. Live stats, video, and audio will be made available for fans.
Last Time OutIn their last matchup, the Grizzlies lost on the road in their RMAC battle against the Regis University Rangers by a 76-53 score.
Emilie Klint and
Desiree Anderson both had impressive showcases of their offensive abilities, by each adding 13 points to the scoreboard in the loss to the Rangers. The Grizzlies never tied nor led in the matchup. The Grizzlies were able to able to pull within two early in the beginning stages of the second half, however Regis responded on a run of their own and led by as many 20 points to finish the game.
About the OrediggersThe Orediggers visit the Grizzlies, boasting an 8-9 record while being 3-8 in RMAC play. Mines so far this season has yet to win a game on the road. The Orediggers are placed under the leadership of Head Coach Brit Simpson, who is in her third year at the helm of the program. Simpson is a former standout from Colorado Mesa University (2002-2006) where she garnered multiple RMAC All- Academic awards along with two all-conference selections. Before taking over the program, Simpson was an assistant on the team for nearly four years and was a part of the coaching staff that helped direct the 2009-10 team that won 20 games (school record), tied the school mark for conference wins (14), and earn their first ever NCAA DII Tournament bid.
Mines' offense averages nearly 64.4 ppg while shooting at 38% efficiency rate. The Orediggers are led offensively by the play of Taylor Helbig, who averages exactly 14 points ppg. Mines' is currently riding a one game winning streak, after beating CSU-Pueblo 59-53 in their last game.
About the CougarsCCU enters Plachy Hall currently holding a 6-11 record while being 6-5 in conference play. They did lose in their last matchup against UCCS by an 88-60 margin and will look to their upcoming road trip as a way to rebound in conference play. The Cougars are led by Head Coach Tim Hays who is in his sixth year of leading the program. CCU has only been victorious in one game on the road this season.
The Cougars' offense averages 63 ppg and shoots the ball at a 41% efficiency rate. However their defense allows nearly 70pgg. Kate Louthan is the heart and soul of this Cougar team, as she averages nearly 14 ppg while also being responsible for snagging on average seven rpg.
Last We MetIn the matchup with the Orediggers last year, Adams lost by a 54-40 score. Klint led the Grizzlies with nine points scored for the entirety of the game.
In the matchup with the Cougars, Adams lost as well by 78-56 score. Anderson led the ASU offense that night by posting nine points as well.
As this point in the season, the Grizzlies record stood at 7-11 and 3-10 in RMAC play.
