ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 29, 2015) – Adams State University and Fort Lewis College reunite on the hardwood this Saturday in Plachy Hall. The conference tilt concludes the Grizzlies four game home stand. Live video, audio, and stats will be available for fans unable to attend.
Last Time OutASU left no doubt of their strength on Tuesday night with a lopsided 113-39 win over Northwest Indian College. In the staggering 74-point win, the Grizzlies shot 59 percent from the field as all active members of the team saw the court. Five players finished in double figures led by 23 points from senior
Mikey Hope. ASU also accumulated 73 bench points and 70 points in the paint during their final non-conference game of the regular season. Northwest Indian struggled to the tune of 21 percent shooting from the field along with 26 turnovers.
About The SkyhawksLed by senior center Alex Herrera, FLC carries a 15-4 overall record and are 10-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) outings. The Skyhawks are coming off a 2-0 weekend which included an 83-77 upset over Colorado School of Mines. In the win over the Orediggers, Herrera had a game-high 28 points and 13 rebounds. A night early in a win over Colorado Christian University, the Ignacio native went for 32 points and 12 rebounds. For his performances Herrera was named the RMAC offensive and defensive player of the week and the United State Basketball Writers Association Division II Men's Basketball player of the week. In total, he has received RMAC player of the week status seven times this season. With their record the Skyhawks are currently positioned in fourth place of the conference standings.
Last We MetThe Grizzlies and Skyhawks were tied at halftime but a strong second half which equated to a 68 percent shooting clip helped FLC prevail, 87-73, from Durango on 12/13/14.
Shakir Smith led ASU with 17 points and six assists as
Mike Hemsley added 10 points, 8 rebounds. FLC pulled away with their 8-of-9 three-point shooting after halftime. Cade Kloster went 6-of-9 from downtown and tallied a game-high 20 points.
