CHADRON, Neb. (October 10, 2015) – For the second consecutive week, Adams State University was kept out of the end zone during a 26-0 defeat to Chadron State College from Elliott Field at Don Beebe Stadium.
On Saturday the Grizzlies (1-5, 1-3 RMAC) were limited to 176 yards of total offense and 10 first downs. Meanwhile, the Eagles (3-3, 2-2 RMAC) wrapped up the conference tilt with 499 yards of total offense highlighted by 305 rushing yards. CSC running back Derek Johnson was responsible for 176 yards on the ground off 24 carries.
Chadron State picked up a pair of touchdowns and a field goal on their initial three drives for an early 16-0 lead. The ASU offense was unable to retaliate as the team was forced to punt on four of their five drives during the opening stanza.
The Grizzlies threatened to score in the third quarter with a 9 play drive that moved ASU down to the CSC one-yard line. However, the Eagles defense stonewalled a pair of
Addie Brown goal line attempts that forced ASU into a
Zach Cimaglia field goal attempt that missed wide right.
The Eagles went on to add another touchdown in the third and a 23-yard field goal in the fourth to complete the game's scoring.
Problems on offense translated to only 24:09 in time of possession for the Grizzlies and a 3-of-11 conversion rate on third down.
In his second collegiate start quarterback
Johnny Feauto went 6-of-17 for 110 yards with one interception and a fumble. The true freshman was also sacked four times. Brown finished with 77 all-purpose yards in the loss. The junior tallied 55 yards rushing on 14 attempts and picked up 27 receiving yards off one reception.
James Holtrop added a game-high 60 yards receiving off two receptions with a long of 48 yards.
Linebacker
Wesley Brandon collected a season-high 15 tackles (8 solo). Defensive back
Bobby Anzures picked up 8 tackles (6 solo) to also produce a season-high. Lineman
Ryan Orr was highly active in the contest with 7 tackles (5 solo), 2 tackles for loss, a sack, and a pass breakup.
Cimaglia netted a 42.0 average from 6 punts with a long of 54 yards.
The Grizzlies now return to Alamosa for an Oct. 17 meeting with Black Hills State University. That RMAC game is slated for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff from Rex Stadium.
