WSOC| Grizzlies upset No. 14 Skyhawks in OT thriller

Box Score DURANGO, Colo. (October 18th, 2015)--  The Adams State University Grizzlies women's soccer team traveled to Durango to take on the No. 14 ranked Fort Lewis College Skyhawks earlier today, where the Grizzlies were able to pull off the upset in overtime with the lone goal to end the game at 1-0.

Shelby McBain fired off the first shot only 1:49 into the contest, but was blocked by FLC goaltender, Caitlyn Espinosa. After that, the Skyhawks seemed to take control with roughly nine minutes of possession. McBain would try her hand again, but Espinosa would save that shot, as well.

Desirae Armijo would try and get the Grizzlies on the board with her shot late in the first period, but it would end up wide of her target.

In the first, Fort Lewis would get nine shots off and Adams State would only manage to fire off three.

To start the second period, Morgan Kuehl would take a shot on net, but her shot would be wide. McBain would get a corner kick, which would see Kuehl try a header, but it would also end up wide. Carissa Sidor would be the next Grizzly to try and score, but Sidor would also be stopped by Espinosa. After a bevy of substitutions on Adams State's behalf, Arin Seidlitz would take to the net, but Espinosa would prove to be a force with another save.

The Skyhawks would get the last shot of regulation, but Grizzly goaltender Molly O' Connor would show her goaltending skills with a save.

After ninety minutes of regulation play,  and just two minutes into overtime, Seidlitz would find her mark and get the winning goal for Adams State off of an assist by Hope Cruz, lifting the Grizzlies over the Skyhawks.

Overall, The Grizzlies would tally twelve shots, with nine of those shots being on target. O'Connor would face only three saves on the day.

This is the first win against a nationally ranked team for the Grizzly program. However, they have two ties against nationally ranked teams the first one coming on October 23rd, 2011 against the then No. 19 ranked Colorado School of Mines (2-2),  and the second coming on September 26th, 2014 where Adams State tied the then ranked No. 23 Metropolitan State University of Denver (1-1).

The Grizzlies will take to the pitch again on October 23rd, when they host the Metro State Roadrunners. Game time is set for 3:00 pm, and fans can follow along with live stats at www.asugrizzlies.com
