PROVO, Utah (November 20, 2015) – It proved to be a difficult shooting night for Adams State University on Friday night against Brigham Young University. The Grizzlies suffered a 97-56 defeat in the program's final exhibition game of the season.
A
Bryan Umoru jumper at the 6:45 mark in the first half gave Adams State a 23-22 lead. However, the Grizzlies shot 0-of-11 from the floor after that going into the break. The cold spell allowed a 10-0 Cougars run and a 42-29 halftime lead.
A renewed BYU defense kept ASU searching for answers, resulting in a 27.7 percent (18-65) shooting clip for the Grizzlies. In comparison, the Cougars shot 59.4 percent (41-69) highlighted by 68 points in the paint.
Adams State began the second half shooting 2-of-14 as BYU grew their lead to 36 points. The Cougars held their biggest lead of the game (44 points) with 4:13 remaining.
Umoru finished with a team-high 12 points thanks to a 10-of-12 performance from the free throw line. Umoru also added 6 rebounds in 21 minutes of action.
Vitor Machado shot 4-of-4 on the night for 8 points as
EJ Hubbard II collected 7 points and 9 rebounds.
Nick Emery paced BYU with 20 points, 6 assists, and 3 steals. The Cougars outrebounded the Grizzlies 48-36 and finished with 52 bench points.
The Grizzlies have a quick turnaround as they host No. 22 Midwestern State University in Alamosa on Saturday. Tip-off for the home opener is scheduled for 7:30pm. Live video and stats will be available for fans.
