MBB | Western State and CSU-Pueblo Preview

ALAMOSA, Colo. (December 17, 2015) –The Adams State University men split their two games last weekend with a win over Colorado Christian University and a loss at the hands of then-ranked No. 15 Colorado School of Mines. This weekend Adams State goes on the road where they'll face Western State Colorado University on Friday and Colorado State University-Pueblo on Saturday. Both games are posted 7:30 p.m. starts.

Last Time Out
The Grizzlies started last weekend off strong with a 105-95 victory over Colorado Christian. DJ Morgan and Kendyl Grover turned in solid performances, combining for 43 points.

The following night ASU hosted Colorado School of Mines. After a highly competitive first half the Grizzlies went into the break trailing, 34-32. ASU tied the game after their first possession of the second half but then watched the Orediggers take the lead and run away with it. The Grizzlies would go on to lose their first conference game of the year, 83-61.

About Western State Colorado University (2-7, 1-3 RMAC)
The Mountaineers have managed two wins this season but only one of those has come in conference. Last week the Mountaineers went into Silver City, N.M. and took their first conference win from Western New Mexico University.

Their leading scorer is Danny Hopkins at 14.6 ppg. Their second leading scorer, Robert Romero, posts 10.7 ppg along with a team-best 5.6 rpg.

About Colorado State University-Pueblo (6-3, 2-1 RMAC)
CSU-Pueblo is tied for second in the Mountain Division of the RMAC with three other teams including Adams State. The ThunderWolves also own the most powerful offense in the league averaging 83.1 points per game. The ThunderWolves will welcome Adams State after their first conference loss on the road to New Mexico Highlands who is currently undefeated at home.

CSU-Pueblo is led by Chris Golden who averages 19.6 ppg. His offensive production ranks eighth amongst RMAC players.

In the final regular season game of 2014-15, the Grizzlies reached the century mark on Western State with a 29 point win. Juwan Buchanan shined with a 38 point individual effort. Mike Hemsley posted 17 of his own while accounting for 7 rebounds and 4 blocks.

ASU played competitive in the first half and went into halftime with a 2 point lead. In the second half, action remained close as ASU tied things up with 19 seconds to go before CSU-Pueblo's Bronson Morton sank a jumper to take the lead with 3 seconds to go. Juwan Buchanan would bring the game to an end after a missed buzzer-beater shot.
