PUEBLO, Colo. (December 19, 2015) – A rare cold shooting night resulted in an 84-63 defeat for Adams State University on Saturday night against Colorado State University-Pueblo.
In defeat, the Grizzlies shot 36 percent (23-63) from the field, 17 percent (4-23) from three-point range, and 65 percent (13-20) from the free throw line.
Adams State (4-6, 3-2 RMAC) found themselves trying to keep pace with the ThunderWolves for the majority of the game. Their comeback attempts were unsuccessful as CSU-Pueblo (7-4, 3-2 RMAC) expanded their lead to 30 points late in the game.
The ThunderWolves were paced by Chris Golden and Josh Smith who each chipped in 16 points. CSU-Pueblo shot a pedestrian 42 percent (29-68) from the field but made up for that with 12 made three-pointers and by sinking 14-of-15 free throws.
The Grizzlies trailed for the duration of the contest as the ThunderWolves maintained a double digit lead throughout the second half. A
Shakir Smith three-pointer at the 15:17 mark of the opening stanza pushed ASU within two (12-10) but the team was unable to take command moving forward.
The duo of Smith and
Kendyl Grover finished with 16 points each to lead ASU. Along with his offensive production, Grover tallied a team-high 9 rebounds in a losing effort.
The Grizzlies are now inactive until a January 1
st home meeting with Metropolitan State University of Denver. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
