(February 26, 2015) – The last chapter of the regular season ends this weekend for Adams State University with a pair of road games against Colorado Mesa University and Western State Colorado University. Last Time OutThe Grizzlies split their home games last weekend against Regis University and Metropolitan State University of Denver. In the 85-52 win over Regis, senior
Mike Hemsley grabbed a season-high 24 points and finished 10-of-11 from the field. As a team, ASU shot 56 percent (30-53) and never trailed at any point in the contest. The Grizzlies finished with the edge in points off turnovers (24-7), second chance points (13-2), bench points (34-18), and points in the paint (34-12).
Adams State concluded the weekend with an 84-79 loss to No. 9 Metro State. A cold start haunted the Grizzlies as an early deficit blossomed to double figures before halftime. A strong 52 percent (19-36) shooting mark in the second half helped ASU mount a comeback. Late three-pointers from
Juwan Buchanan and
Justin Kauffman put the Grizzlies within two but following shots down the stretch did not fall resulting in defeat.
About The MavericksColorado Mesa enters the weekend on a five game winning streak that places them with a 19-7 overall record and a 14-6 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) mark. The Mavericks enter the last regular season weekend as the fifth seed for the upcoming RMAC Shootout. Junior forward Ryan Stephan leads the way with an impressive 25.4 points per game and 8.3 rebounds per game – both of which rank second in the RMAC. CMU has been able to light it up from downtown at a 40 percent (249-613) clip.
About The Mountaineers With a 4-20, 3-17 RMAC record, Western State will see their season end on Saturday when they face Adams State. The squad picked up their last win in Silver City, New Mexico on Feb. 13 against Western New Mexico University. The Mountaineers were most recently in action against CMU but were torched to the tune of a 103-68 defeat. Senior guard Mason Biddle has a team-best 17.5 points per game while Danny Hopkins and Devin Kastrup rake in 12.4 and 12.1 points per game, respectively. The program is under the direction of first year head coach, Bradd Schafer.
