MBB Preview | New Mexico Highlands & Western New Mexico

ALAMOSA, Colo. (February 5, 2015) – Adams State University returns to the hardwood this weekend for a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) contests against New Mexico Highlands University and Western New Mexico University. It'll be the first road games for the Grizzlies after four consecutive contests at home. Live coverage will be made available.

Last Time Out
The Grizzlies arguably picked up their best win of the season against Fort Lewis College at home on Jan. 31. In the 77-69 win, Michael Middlebrooks limited FLC's Alex Herrera and the Skyhawks with his defensive presence by picking up seven rebounds (four defensive) and five blocks. For his efforts, Middlebrooks was named the RMAC Defensive Player of the Week for a second time. He also produced offensively with 12 points off 6-of-6 shooting. Shakir Smith tallied a team-best 22 points in his first game in a reserve role. The victory capped off a 3-1 homestand for ASU.

About The Cowboys
Highlands enters weekend play at 4-15 overall and 4-11 in conference tilts. Friday's meeting with ASU marks only the program's eighth home game of the season. The Cowboys are coming off an 0-2 weekend with road defeats against Colorado State University-Pueblo and the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs. Their last win came against Western New Mexico, 92-69, at home on Jan. 24. Kendrick Nichols leads the team with 18.6 points per game. Jonathon Mines and Ricky Norris also pose a threat by averaging 17.4 ppg. and 11.3 ppg., respectively.

About The Mustangs
With a 2-17, 2-13 RMAC record, WNMU sits in last place of the conference standings. The Mustangs started the season at 0-13 before collecting their first win, on the road, against Regis University on Jan. 2. Their only home win came against Chadron State College, 78-76, on Jan. 17. Leading the way are Marcos Castrillo and Terrez Scott at 13.1 ppg. and 12.2 ppg., respectively. Offense has been an issue as the team produces a mere 63.9 ppg. while allowing opponents 82.9 ppg.
