WBB Preview | New Mexico Highlands & Western New Mexico

ALAMOSA, Colo. (February 5, 2015)--  The Adams State University women's basketball team returns to action this weekend for their slated Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) games against the likes of New Mexico Highlands University (Feb. 6) and Western New Mexico University (Feb.7). Both games will be played on the road. Lives stats, video, and audio will be made accessible for fans. Adams State is 0-8 thus far on the road and will look to add a win away from Plachy Hall.

Last Time Out
In their last game, the Grizzlies captured the victory in dramatic fashion against the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks. In the final moments of the game, the Grizzlies were able to seal the win, 77-74, when J'nae Squires-Horton stole an errant pass with less than three seconds left in regulation. Squires-Horton and Desiree Anderson proved to be a lethal offensive combination against the Skyhawks by injecting 32 points into the scoreboard. Maya Brown and Nicole Broyles were just as effective in the paint and defensively tested an experienced Fort Lewis front court often throughout the contest. A  team effort paralleled with the team's ability to successfully find the bottom of the nylon helped the Grizzlies come out on top.

Meet the Cowgirls
This is the second meeting this season between both squads. In the Jan. 9 matchup played at Plachy Hall, the Grizzlies narrowly lost by a score of 70-63. The game was closely contested, and at the end of the first half the Grizzlies only trailed by a point. However, costly turnovers and a deep Cowgirls rotation proved to be the "x-factor" in the matchup and NMHU left Alamosa with a victory. Ashley Mitchell was the leading scorer for the Cowgirls that game with 15 points. She is also the team leader with 13.0 points per game this season. The Cowgirls are 11-8 and 8-7 in conference play. Currently they are 6-2 at home.

Meet the Mustangs
This matchup is also the second meeting of the season between the two squads. In the home matchup played on Jan. 10, the Grizzlies defeated Western New Mexico by a score of 57-48. The Grizzlies put together one of their most dominant performances of the season. Emily Klint was the leading scorer in the game with 14 points. The Mustangs are currently 4-15 on the season, and 3-12 in conference play. They are riding a nine game losing streak. Angelina Sanchez is the team's leading scorer with 13.0 points per game.
