DENVER (March 6, 2015) – The final chapter of the Adams State University men's basketball season was completed on Friday night with a 94-86 loss against the No. 21 University of Colorado at Colorado Springs in the RMAC Shootout semifinals.
The loss places ASU with a 19-9 overall mark while the Mountain Lions move to 25-5 and advance into tomorrow's championship game.
Keeping ASU in the backseat during the game was UCCS junior Derrick White who finished with a game-high 33 points, 10 rebounds, seven blocked shots, and five assists. The Grizzlies held a brief lead early on but found themselves trailing for the majority of the contest. ASU junior
Shakir Smith paced the Grizzlies with a team-high 26 points as
Juwan Buchanan added 21 points.
Mike Hemsley chipped in 15 points along with seven rebounds.
For the game, ASU shot 37 percent (29-77) from the field and finished at 82 percent (19-23) from the free throw line. The Mountain Lions countered with 53 percent (28-52) field goal shooting and were 9-of-17 (52%) from downtown.
The Grizzlies held the edge in points in the paint (38-34), points off turnovers (22-8), second chance points (27-14), fast break points (8-6), and bench points (15-4).
White along with teammates Alex Walsh and Darius Pardner combined for 72 of the Mountain Lions' 94 points.
