MSOC | Grizzlies Falter In Friday Neutral Site Match

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (September 11, 2015) - The Adams State University men's soccer team was on the road again this week. On Friday afternoon they met Upper Iowa University on neutral ground with Colorado Christian University serving as host.

Following victories at home over Wisconson-Parkside and Lewis University, Upper Iowa (3-0) came into this matchup with an untarnished record. For their first game on the road the Peacocks had quite a trip, 841 miles in fact.

Against Upper Iowa, ASU experienced a sense of déjà vu. For the second game in a row the Grizzlies outshot their opponent only to fall by a score of 3-0. ASU (0-2) diversified their attack with Shane Wagner and Matthew Jackson combining for eight shots, four of which went into the waiting arms of UIU goalkeeper Connor Rortvedt.

UIU (3-0) started scoring action with a penalty kick from Rhys Williams in the second period making it, 1-0. They then kept going with a contribution from Greg Marshall assisted by Raphael Pedroso. Both Adams State and Upper Iowa fought hard with six players receiving warnings (3 ASU and 3 UIU). The Peacocks then capped off their shutout win with Ryan Pinkerton finding the back of the net in the 76th minute with an assist from Johnny McBeth.

The Grizzlies will host their home opener on Sunday against Lubbock Christian University (2-0). Last year LCU posted a 9-6-1 record, going 6-2 in inter-conference play. LCU is not to be taken lightly; they own a 2-0 record having dispatched the University of the Southwest, 5-4, and a 5-1 rout of Colorado Christian.
