Box Score 2 COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (September 12, 2015)—The second day of the 2015 Steel and Silver Classic hosted by the University of Colorado-Colorado Springs opened up with the Adams State University Grizzlies women's volleyball (1-7) playing against St. Edwards University and Texas Women's University. The Grizzlies were able to win their first game against St. Edwards University but fell short in their matchup against Texas Women's University.
ASU won their first game against St. Edwards University at
11:30 yesterday morning, beating the Hilltoppers in three sets. The Grizzlies were victorious in their match via scores of 25-23, 25-17, and 25-18. The offensive combination of hitters
Alex Parker and
Paitton Heltenberg proved pester the Hilltopper defense constantly. The duo was apart of 61 of 135 total attacks by the Grizzly offense. Heltenberg led the team with 14 kills and Parker chipped in on the offensive onslaught with 10 kills as well.
Mallory Grimsrud continues to be in fantastic form for the Grizzlies, totaling seven kills and four blocks in the matchup against SEU. The win over the Hilltoppers was the Grizzlies first win of the season.
The Grizzlies were unable to build of their new found momentum they found in their first game in their
4:30 matchup against Texas Women's University in three sets. ASU fell by a score of 25-22, 25-16, and 25-14. TWU outside hitters Hillary Shaffer and Mallory Kuechle dominated the net and had the Grizzlies searching for defensive answers throughout most of the match. Shaffer posted 16 kills and Kuechle cashed in 11 for TWU. For the Grizzlies, Heltenberg and Grimsrud led the Grizzlies with nine kills each respectively.
Adams State will now have six days to prepare for their first Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) game against The Regis University Rangers. The game on Sept. 18
th in Denver, Colo. and is slated for a
