WSOC | Grizzlies trump Griffins 2-1

ALAMOSA, Colo. (September 25, 2015)—The Adams State University Grizzlies women's soccer team squared off against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) foes the Westminster College Griffins earlier today, in which the Grizzlies were able to fend off the 4-1 Griffins, with a 2-1 victory.

The first half saw Adams State come out strong with most of the first being contained to the Griffins' side of the pitch. Dezirae Armijo would get the first shot off of the match, but it would be saved. Armijo would get another chance to put Adams State on the board, but the shot would be wide. Hope Cruz would take a shot, but Westminster's goalie would again deny the Grizzlies.
Shelby McBain would find the back of the net at the 19:36 mark of the first. This would give the Grizzlies an early 1-0 lead.

Adams State would tally six shots in the first half, while Westminster would be held to only three shots.
To start the second, the Griffins would come out fighting with two shots and a corner kick. Westminster would tie the game up at the 58:32 mark with a goal by Rylei North.

Sloan Foster would try to give the Grizzlies the lead again, but her shot would be too high. There would be a battle between the two teams to break the tie, and 76:53 into the contest, Lacey Daniel would get the go ahead goal off of an assist by Carissa Sidor.

In the second half, Adams State would only tally two shots for eight shots total with four being on net, and Westminster would get five shots to bring their total to eight as well with six of their shots being on target.
Leading the way for the Grizzlies were Armijo with four shots, McBain with two, and Foster and Cruz each tallying one shot. With the win, Adams State improves to 3-2-1 on the season.

The Grizzlies will next take to the pitch on Sunday, September 27th when they host  the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks at 2:30 pm. Fans can follow along with live stats at www.asugrizzlies.com
