Box Score ALAMOSA, Colo. (September 27, 2015)— The Adams State University Grizzlies women's soccer team took to the pitch earlier this afternoon against in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) match up against the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks. After being held scoreless in regulation play, the Grizzlies were able to top the Mavericks 1-0 in the first overtime period.
The first period of regulation play, Adams State's
Dezirae Armijo managed to get the first two shots of the game, but both shots were wide.
Courtney Miknis would be the next Grizzly to try her luck, but her shot was saved by CMU's Janelle Richmond-Buccola.
Miknis and
Maggie Carrico would fire off the last two shots of the period, but would be stopped by Richmond-Buccola.
In the first,
Molly O'Connor saved one shot, while Adams State tallied five shots.
To start the second, the Mavericks fired off two quick shots, which were saved by O'Connor. Armijio would try and get the Grizzlies on the board with two shots of her own, but again, would be wide.
Shelby McBain would also try and get a Grizzly lead, but would be denied by Richmond-Buccola. The Grizzlies would fight hard to give themselves a lead with
Hope Cruz firing off a shot, but the game would continue on with both teams scoreless. At the 83:53 mark, Armijo would strike again, but this time the shot was too high.
With the game in the first period of overtime, Armijo would be successful in finding the back of the net at the 95:38 mark of the game. She would also lead both teams with seven shots (two were on goal).
Cruz,
Abbey Rasmussen, McBain, and
Elizabeth Anderson would all tally one shot. Overall, the Grizzlies had fourteen shots, with eight being on goal. O'Connor had four saves on the day.
Adams State will take to the pitch next on October 2
