ALAMOSA, Colo. (September 6, 2015)- The Adams State University women's soccer team won their first game of the season this afternoon with a 2-0 victory against University of Texas of the Permian-Basin.
The Grizzlies (1-0-1) were the first to find the back of the net thanks to penalty kick conceived by UTPB's back defense line.
Ashley Furbush cashed in the one-on-one shot attmept to give the Grizzlies a 1-0 lead right before the end of the first half of regulation.
Four minutes into the second half of regulation play,
Hope Cruz scored her second goal of the season to give Adams State a 2-0 lead. Cruz proved to be an effective goal scoring threat that pestered the UTPB defense for a much of the match. Cruz totaled six shots in the game with three shots on target. Â
Molly O'Connor, who had a fine showcase of abilities in the matchup against Angelo State UniversityÂ
on Friday, continued to be strong for the Grizzlies in between the pipes by collecting two saves in 45 minutes of play.Â
Teagan Moore also made an appearance as goalie for the Grizzlies, playing the entire second half and collected three saves. Moore also assisted Cruz's 48th minute goal.
Adams State held a 24-7 shot advantage for the match, with nine of those shots on goal.Â
The Grizzlies take the pitch next on Tuesday, Sept. 8 Â at 3 pm against Eastern New Mexico University in Alamosa.Â
