ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 7, 2016) -- Adams State University hosted No. 20 Colorado Mesa University on Thursday in their first home dual of the season. It unfortunately served as a long night for the Grizzlies who lost to the Mavericks, 35-11.

The night began at the 125 pound weight class with ASU's
Ian Wingstrom taking to the mat. The match was competitive throughout until CMU's Jonathon Stelling caught Wingstrom with a pin near the end of the third period.

Next was fourth-ranked
Martin Ramirez at 133 in his first action since being named RMAC Wrestler of the Week and d2wrestle.com Regional Wrestler of the Week. Against the Mavericks, Ramirez led the Grizzlies to five team points with a tech fall in the second period over Michael McDaniel.

In the 141 pound weight class,
Joshua Salas gave a strong performance against CMU's Daniel Salazar but lost in a close 6-4 decision. Â

It was a tough night for
Devin Vasquez at 149 as he suffered a first round pin against Drew Schumann.

With no one to compete in the 157 pound weight class, the Grizzlies suffered a forfeit to CMU's Nick Swanson.

It continued to be a difficult night for the Grizzlies as
Koery Windham (165) and
Mario Garcia (174) both fell by major decision to their CMU counterpart.

Richard Bencomo gave a strong performance for the Grizzlies in the 184 pound weight class. He ended the night with a 5-1 decision over Adam Visconti.

After a competitive first round at 197, Joe Bencomo fell by pin in the second period to CMU's Marcus Haughian.

Tuli Laulu finished the night off strong for the Grizzlies in the 285 pound weight class as he outlasted Colter Bentley to come away with a 3-2 decision.
