Box Score ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 8, 2016)—The Adams State University Grizzlies returned to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conerence (RMAC) action
Friday night, as they opened up their four-game away stretch with a bout against the Colorado School of Mines Orediggers. The Grizzlies kept the game competitive in the first half but the home court advantage paired with the Oredigger's high-octane offense proved to be too much, ultimately resulting in a 75-66 setback.
The game drops Adams State to 2-8 overall and 1-6 in the Mountain Division of the RMAC. With the win, Mines elevates their overall record to 10-2 and 8-0 in RMAC play. The Orediggers have now won ten consecutive games and sit atop the RMAC standings.
The Grizzlies were led by
Lena Jaycox who posted 21 points
in 28 minutes of play. All of Jaycox's points came from behind the three point line as she converted 7-12 of all her shots from behind the arc. ASU got a solid performance from
Lauren McDonald who chipped in 10 points in
tonight's affair.
Cydney McHenry led the team with 5 total assists.
Friday's first quarter was filled with back and forth action. While Mines seized the first seven points of the game, Adams quickly closed the gap and responded well on the road in a hostile environment. Dominant play from McDonald and
DeShea Wilkes assisted in the Grizzlies keeping things competitive. At the conclusion of the first quarter, the Grizzlies only trailed by 5 as the Orediggers held a 20-15 lead. Another offensive display was found in the second quarter. Again Mines scored the first seven points of the second quarter, but the Grizzly offense led by Jaycox scored 18 points in the second quarter compared to the Orediggers 21. Mines led the Grizzlies heading into halftime 41-33.
All the offensive momentum the Grizzlies had built in the first half quickly disappeared. CSM offense exploded and used a strong defensive presence to limit the Grizzlies. In the third quarter, ASU only posted ten points and had difficulty limiting the Oredigger offense. Mines led by as many as 20 points in the second half and were able to close out the game easily with victory. The Orediggers were led offensively by Cassidy Budge who scored 23 points in
tonight's affair. Forward Courtney Martin also chipped in 21 points as well.
