ALAMOSA, Colo. (November 29th, 2016) – The Adams State University women's basketball opens up conference play as they host New Mexico Highlands and No. 12 Colorado State Pueblo this weekend. The game against the Cowgirls will be contested on Friday night at 5:30pm. The matchup with the ThunderWolves will take place on Saturday night at 5:30pm.

Recently For Adams State Women's Basketball:
The Grizzlies were on the road for a pair of exhibition games against Wyoming and Colorado State of the division 1 ranks. The games did not count against Adams due to the nature of their exhibition status. Wyoming pulled away 79-40 in the first game. The 3-in-a-row Mountain West Conference champions from Colorado State similarly eased through the next exhibition game with the Grizzlies by a score of 76-29. Since neither game counted against the Grizzlies' season, the team remains 1-3.

About New Mexico Highlands:
The Cowgirls come into Friday's game with a 1-2 overall record. They began the year with the Heartland/Lonestar/ RMAC Challenge tournament, in which they were the host school. In the tournament, they lost a close one to Roger State 52-49 and won a close one over Oklahoma State Panhandle 63-62. Outside of the tournament they lost big against Eastern New Mexico 75-48, and were crushed in an exhibition game against division 1 New Mexico State 94-37.

Last Meeting: The Grizzlies and Cowgirls met twice last season with the Grizzlies losing both contests. On January 22nd, 2016 A strong second half surge spearheaded by the dominant play of junior guard Lena Jaycox was almost enough for Adams State University's comeback bid against the visiting New Mexico Highlands. A last-chance desperation three-point shot from Jaycox glanced off the glass in the final seconds of regulation, sealing the Cowgirls 51-49 win. The next meeting would not be so close on February 18th, 2016 in Las Vegas, New Mexico. Despite the Grizzlies having four players post double-digit margins offensively, the Adams State University basketball team lost by a 70-59 score.

About Colorado State Pueblo: The ThunderWolves are 6-0 this season and looking to defend their RMAC Championship from last year's 26-6 season. The team opened their year with 2 exhibition games against division 1 competition. Impressively, the lost by only 8 to powerhouse, Colorado State 56-48. They were also defeated by Utah State by a respectable 63-54 margin. Outside of the exhibition games, they have yet to lose. As of November 22nd, the NCAA has CSU-Pueblo ranked #12 nationally.

Last Meeting: The Grizzlies met the ThunderWolves twice last year, losing both meetings. The first was on December 19th, 2015 in Pueblo. Despite taking an early lead, the Grizzlies were unable to fend off a ThunderWolves surge in the third quarter of play that led to a 71-56 loss for Adams State. The second meeting took place on February 12th, 2016.  Despite junior forward Johnette Brown's career night, Adams State University lost tonight against their Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) rival Colorado State University-Pueblo by a 66-52 score. Brown had 20 points that night.

Looking Ahead: Next up, the Grizzlies hit the road for a December 9th game with Western State and a December 10th game at Colorado Mesa.
