ALAMOSA, Colo. (December 12th, 2016) – The Adams State University women's basketball team continues their season with a pair of RMAC home games this week. The Grizzlies will take on Fort Lewis on Tuesday at 5:30pm, and Westminster on Friday at a rare 1:00pm start time.

Recently For Adams State Women's Basketball:
The Grizzlies dropped games against Western State and Colorado Mesa on the road last week. With only a minute remaining in the game, DeShea Wilkes scored on a layup to put the Grizzlies in a winning position at 39-38. Several turnovers later, the Mountaineers paced down the court and heaved a 3 point shot that fell with only 2 seconds remaining in the game. The Grizzlies could not throw up a miracle of their own, and fell to Western 39-41.
Against a 6-1 Colorado Mesa team, the Grizzlies actually held a 4 point lead at the end of the first. From that point, the Mavericks would eventually pull away to a 30 point win behind the shooting of Bryanna Adams and Ma'ata Epenisa who had 16 points each and combined for 12 rebounds.

About Fort Lewis:
The Skyhawks will enter Tuesday's contest with a 6-2 overall record and a 2-2 RMAC record. Fort Lewis recently lost to conference leaders, Colorado Mesa by only 4 points in a 58-54 contest last Friday. The next day, they stomped Western State 56-39. The team is led by Briana Clah who averages 12 points a game. The Skyhawks are led defensively by Ande Lampert who has 14 blocks on the season.

Last Meeting: The Grizzlies lost both meetings to the Skyhawks last season. In the first meeting on December 5th, 2015, Adams was dominated 65-106. In that game, the Skyhawk bench erupted for 41 points compared to the Grizzly 26. Paired with 40 points in the paint and 32 points off turnovers, the Skyhawks put in one of their best performances of the 2015-16 season.
The February 26th, 2016 meeting was a lot closer. The Grizzlies lost by a narrow 62-75 mark on the road that night. The Grizzlies used a 22-15 third quarter to come roaring back in that game. Even into the fourth ASU kept battling coming as close as five points. With three minutes left to play, Fort Lewis' Alyssa Yocky buried a three-pointer to put the Skyhawks up by 10 seemingly applying the final coffin nail.

About Westminster: The Griffins are 4-4 on the year and are 2-2 in conference play. Last Saturday, the Griffins ran into No. 9 ranked CSU-Pueblo in a 54-68 losing effort. The team is led by Junior, Sydnee Taylor who averages 13 points a game and has sunk 14 three pointers on the year.

Last Meeting: The teams met twice last season with Westminster winning both. The first occurred at an early season tournament with a 28-66 ASU defeat. The official conference game with the Griffins occurred on January 15th, 2016 with a 76-54 Westminster win.  Denise Gonzales led the Griffins with 16 points. As a team, the Griffins converted 62.5 (10-16) percent off their shots from beyond the three-point line and had three other players score in the double-digits outside of Gonzales. Westminster led by as many as 38 points in the game and never trailed from start to finish.

Looking Ahead: After the week's games, the Grizzlies close out the 2016 calendar year on the road at Colorado Christian and Chadron State on the 30th and 31st of December respectively.
