ALAMOSA, Colo. (December 3, 2016) – A pair of free throws by
Jarrett Givens with 5:49 remaining in regulation knotted the game at 69-69 but Adams State University was unable to push ahead on Saturday night as they fell 80-75 to Colorado State University-Pueblo.
The late game dramatics did not seem likely as CSU-Pueblo (3-4, 1-1 RMAC) held control for most of the RMAC tilt. The Grizzlies (4-4, 1-1 RMAC) trailed by 11 early in the second half before making their comeback attempt.
Helping the ThunderWolves to seize control was a healthy 53.3 percent shooting clip for the game. CSU-Pueblo held steady in both halves by shooting an identical 16-30 from the field. Meanwhile, it took the Grizzlies a bit longer to fire up but ASU answered by shooting 50 percent after halftime to combat their 39.2 percent shooting mark in the opening stanza.
Adams State had four players finish in double figures led by 20 points from
Brandon Sly as Givens added 17.
Brandon Pasker followed Friday night's double-double with another solid outing of 11 points and 8 rebounds while
Bryan Umoru led the bench with 10 points.
Mark Williams and Nelson Kahler paced CSU-Pueblo with 19 points apiece.
The Grizzlies return to the road next week to face Western State Colorado University on Dec. 9
th followed by Colorado Mesa University on Dec. 10
th. Both games are scheduled for a 7:30pm tip-off.
