ALAMOSA, Colo. (December 6, 2016) – Adams State University will have its first pair of RMAC road games this weekend as they travel to face Western State Colorado University (Fri.) and Colorado Mesa University (Sat.). Both games are set for a 7:30 p.m. tip-off.

Last Time Out
The Grizzlies split at home last weekend with a 101-72 win over New Mexico Highlands University followed by an 80-75 loss to Colorado State University-Pueblo. Brandon Sly led the team with 19.5 ppg as Shane Johnson (11.5), Brandon Pasker (10.5), and Jarrett Givens (10.5) all averaged double digits. Pasker also pulled in 10.0 rebounds per game. The ASU defense clamped down by allowing 76.0 ppg. The team entered weekend play allowing 88.0 ppg. Three-point shooting also shined as the Grizzlies shot 40 percent (11-27).

Conference Glance
Six conference teams managed a 2-0 record last weekend to begin RMAC play. Adams State, CSU-Pueblo, and Western State were the only schools to go 1-1. Colorado School of Mines and Fort Lewis College are tied for the top spot with a 7-1 overall record and 2-0 conference mark.

Scouting The Mountaineers
The Mountaineers enter weekend play with a 2-4, 1-1 RMAC record. Western State is 2-1 at home with the lone defeat coming against Wayland Baptist University (L, 89-78). Ben Beauchamp owns a team-best 14.0 ppg as Collin Smith chips in 12.8 ppg. The Mountaineers rank first in free throw percentage (79%) as Patrick Sniff leads the RMAC with a unblemished free throw mark. Through six games, Sniff is 14-of-14 from the line. Ray Beresford ranks fourth in the RMAC with a 93 percent mark from the charity stripe. Bradd Schafer is in his third season as head coach for the Mountaineers.

Scouting The Mavericks
Colorado Mesa enters the week on a five-game losing streak which places them with a 1-7, 0-2 RMAC record. The frustrating season was exemplified during a 76-75 defeat last weekend at Western State. The Mavericks held onto a double digit lead late in the second half but could not hold on for the win. C.J. Davis averages 14.3 ppg. and ranks second in the RMAC with 3.3 three-pointers made per game.

Last We Met
Last season the Grizzlies went 1-1 against the Mountaineers and 0-1 against the Mavericks. On 1/16/16, Colorado Mesa defeated Adams State at home, 88-71. The Grizzlies defeated the Mountaineers, 93-91, on the road (12/18/15) but later suffered a 99-98 buzzer-beater home loss on Senior Night (2/13/16).

Looking Ahead
The Grizzlies will host Fort Lewis College on Tuesday, Dec. 13th, followed by a meeting with Westminster College (Utah) on Friday, Dec. 16th. The Fort Lewis game will tip-off at 7:30pm but the Westminster tilt will begin at 3pm.
