Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

WBB| McHenry led Grizzlies unable to fend off Mustangs

SILVER CITY, NM (February 18, 2016)- The Adams State University Grizzlies women's basketball team lost Friday afternoon against Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) foe the Western New Mexico University Mustangs by a 64-43 score.

The Grizzlies (3-20, 2-18 RMAC) were paced offensively by junior guard Cydney McHenry who posted 11 points in the affair against the Mustangs off of 4-14 shooting from the field. McHenry also led the team in assists with three, and collected eight rebounds. Maddy Merschel chipped in 10 points onto the scoreboard for Adams State, converting a perfect 6-6 from behind the free-throw line.

Poor shooting on behalf of Grizzlies ultimately tiled the game in favor of WNMU.In the first half of regulation the Grizzlies did convert 26 percent (6-23) of their shots from the field compared to the Mustangs' 37 percent (10-27) conversion rate, but unfortunately the Grizzlies were unable to develop any sort of offensive rhythm in the second half.  In the second half of regulation, Adams State only converted on 14.7 percent (5-34) of their shots and were an anemic 9 percent (1-11) from shots taken from downtown.

Offensive deficiencies in the second half marred the Grizzlies' attempts at any sort of comeback, but defensively ASU had no answer to the Mustangs' offensive attack.  The WNMU offense posted 20 points in both the third and fourth quarter of the game. Each Mustang starter produced at least six points in the second half of regulation. WNMU led by as many as 23 points before the conclusion of Friday's game.

Adams State will now prepare for their next RMAC matchup against the New Mexico Highlands University Cowgirls. The game will be played in Las Vegas, NM and is scheduled for a 5:30 pm tip-off. Live video and stats will be made accessible for fans by following www.asugrizzlies.com
