MLAX| Grizzlies drop second game of Florida road trip to Mocs

LAKELAND, Fla. (March 22nd, 2016)—The Adams State University men's lacrosse team continued on their Florida road trip earlier Tuesday, when they faced-off against the Florida Southern College Mocs. The Grizzlies were unable to hold off a fast Mocs squad, as they fell 13-6.

Florida Southern got things started when they scored a quick goal, just two minutes into the first quarter to go up 1-0 on the Grizzlies. However, Emmitt MacFarlane tied the game up with his goal off of an assist by Kage Janes at the 9:09 mark. The goal came when Adams State was a man down.

The Mocs went on a three-goal run to give them selves a 4-1 lead, but with just thirty-nine seconds showing on the clock, Garrett Chitwood scored his second goal of the season to cut the lead down to 4-2 going into the second quarter.

The start of the second quarter saw Florida Southern add two more goals to their lead, before Seth Stowell, off of an assist by Nik Clinton, would cut the Mocs' lead in half at 6-3.

Florida Southern then extended their lead to 8-3 before the Grizzlies would strike again. This time Drew Kerigan, also assisted by Clinton, would find the back of the net to score his fourth goal of the season. Kerigan's goal would cut the lead in half again at 8-4 to bring the game into half time.

With 8:42 left in the third quarter, Stowell would score his second goal of the contest, off of an assist by Daniel Krieble. This would be Stowell's eighth goal of the season, and would bring the Grizzlies to within three of the Mocs.
Florida Southern would add two more goals before the end of the third quarter to put the score at 10-5, heading into the last stanza of play.

A late goal by Clinton, off of an assist by Tanner Ammell would get things going in the final quarter of play, but it wouldn't be enough, as the Mocs would tack on three more goals to end the contest.

"A handful of mental lapses really hurt us tonight.  Credit to Florida Southern, they're a very well coached team and played well tonight.  I think our effort level is there, we just need to be a little mentally tougher for a full 60 minutes, correct our mistakes and capitalize on our opportunities when they're either presented or we're able to create them. " Grizzlies' Head Coach Jason Levesque said after the game.
"Our young group really needs to be more consistent; hopefully we learn some lessons and take another step in the process of finding a more consistent, thorough game."

Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) Defensive Player of the Week, Connor Johnson, finished the day with twenty saves, with 33 of Florida Southern's 57 shots being on net. The Grizzlies also went 21 for 25 on clears, edging out the Mocs, who went 17 for 19.

The Grizzlies wrap up their Sunshine State road trip on Friday, when they travel to Tampa to take on the No. 5 ranked University of Tampa Spartans. Game time is set for a 5:00 pm start.
