MSOC| Double OT Thriller Gets Men's Soccer Back On Track

ALAMOSA, Colo. (September 18th) --- The men's soccer team returned to their winning ways with a double overtime win against the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology (0-5). It was another heated game for the Grizzlies (4-2) which resulted in 5 total yellow cards, and a red card against the Hardrockers.

Josue Murillo posted the game's first score in the first period to give the Grizzlies a 1-0 halftime lead. Ruben Molinar added another goal by way of a penalty kick early in the second half to boost the score to 2-0. Only about a minute later, the Hardrockers would answer and trim the deficit by 1. At the 85:31 mark, SDSMT tied things up with a goal from Justin Barkow and sent the game to overtime. Overtime number one would have its close moments, but ultimately remained scoreless until the horn. Nearing the end of overtime number 2, Ethan Jackson snuck one in for the win with only 30 seconds remaining.

All 3 goals for ASU today, were the first goals of the year for the players who made them.

Coach Brett Bentley had this to say: "Credit goes to SD Mines today for how they played. They came out and jumped all over us and made life difficult. I'm always pleased with a win, however I can't say I'm very happy with how we played.

The big take away today was our boys' ability to find a way to win. That's a hard thing to do when you're up by 2 and then have your opponent draw level to force overtime. We always talk about not focusing on what happens but how we respond, and our response today was gritty and relentless and got us the result. We will be better for today and look forward to a tough game Wednesday."

The Grizzlies return to action this Wednesday, September 21st to face Fort Lewis College at 3:00pm on the ASU Soccer Field.
