ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 17th, 2017) – The Adams State University women's basketball is coming off of a winless weekend that puts them on a 12 game losing streak. The Grizzlies will have another two chances to break that streak this weekend in front of the home crowd against Chadron State and Regis University.
Recently For Adams State Women's Basketball:
The Grizzlies played admirable defense over the weekend, but let both games slip away in the second half. The team lost 74-58 on Friday to South Dakota Mines and lost to Black Hills on Saturday by a 68-48 margin.
About Chadron State:
Chadron State comes in at 4-10, 4-7 RMAC which makes them the most favorable matchup to end Adams State's losing streak. Their four wins on the season came from victories over Colorado Christian, South Dakota Mines, Westminster, and your very own Adams State Grizzlies. The Eagles will be led by their junior guard, Kalli Feddersen who is averaging 13.1 points a game. Kalli has also been solid on defense with 24 steals on the year.
Last Meeting: The Grizzlies have already faced the Eagles once this season in Nebraska on New Year's Eve. That game was a heartbreaker for the Grizzlies as they fell 60-59. In the fourth of that game, Deshea Wilkes would nail a 3 pointer to bring the Grizzlies within 1. Adams would make a defensive stop and get one last shot at the buzzer however. Unfortunately,
Brianna Reyna's last second layup attempt did not drop and the Grizzlies dropped the contest by 1 point. Friday's game will tip off at 5:30pm.
About Regis University:
The Rangers will be a bit tougher than Chadron. Regis comes in at 13-2, 8-2 RMAC and are on the verge of being ranked in the Top 25. The team's only losses were to Colorado Mines and Fort Lewis. Equally as good at home as they are on the road, the Rangers are 6-1 in either location. The trio of Mary Sigler, Chante Church, and Majestie Robinson will be the ones to watch for the away team. They all average double digit points and have combined for 70 three pointers, 147 rebounds, and 48 steals.
Last Meeting: These teams last met on January 30
th, 2016. That evening was a very forgettable one as the Grizzlies were beaten 90-43. For the game Adams State shot 26.9 percent (14-52) from the field compared to Regis' 53.2 percent (33-62). The Grizzlies trailed by as many as 48 points in the game and scored a season-low seven points in the first quarter along with eight points scored in the third.
Looking Ahead: After this weekend the Grizzlies will hit the road for three games. These contests will feature Colorado Mines, CSU-Pueblo, and New Mexico Highlands.
