Wrest| Cowboys Edge Out Grizzlies By A Single Point

LAS VEGAS, N.M. (January 16th, 2017) --- The Adams State wrestling team lost the closest contest imaginable tonight in Las Vegas, New Mexico. The teams were so evenly matched that the final came down to one single point. Unfortunately, that point went to the Cowboys as they secured the 21-20 victory.

Darek Huff (125), Martin Ramirez (133), and Dylan Udero (141) all dominated early on. The trio scored a tech fall and two major decisions respectively over their opponents to give Adams 13 team points. Devin Vasquez would lose a tech fall of his own at 149 putting Highlands on the board. The Cowboys would continue to rack up points until Koery Windham won a 15-5 major decision over Jacob Hawthorne in the 174 pound weight class. In a deciding match of the heavyweights, Christopher Collins was able to edge Tuli Laulu with a 6-5 decision to get the 3 points needed to win the whole thing.

The wrestling team will travel to Edmond, Oklahoma on Saturday to finish up their road trip with Central Oklahoma. The duel will start at 6:00pm.
