ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 28th, 2017) --- Much like Friday night, the Adams State wrestling team's fate came down to the final match on Saturday night. Once again, the Grizzlies could not pull off the clinching match and were defeated 20-15 by Colorado Mines.
Â
The night opened up the 184 pound match between
Nevada Bencomo and Benjamin Krantz. Bencomo was able to secure a 3-1 decision for an early Adams lead. At 197,
Khalil Gipson took out Brandon Saunders with a 7-3 decision.
Darek Huff won an 8-2 decision at 125 pounds over Matthew Lavengood to keep up the momentum.
Martin Ramirez got back on track after dropping a close one on Friday, easily defeating Noah Au-Yeung in a 10-3 decision at the 133 pound level. Later on,
Isaac Lopez would win a 6-5 decision in the 165 pound weight class to put Adams State up 15-14 heading into the final match. The final would come quickly when Robert Gambrell pinned
Koery Windham at the 3:44 mark to give the Orediggers a 5 point win. Â
Â
The team will head to Colorado Springs for the RMAC Championships next Saturday, February 4th. Â
