WBB| UCCS & Metro State Preview

ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 4th, 2017) – The Adams State University women's basketball team rings in the new year with a trip to Colorado Springs with a 5:30pm matchup against UCCS on January 6th. The following day, the Grizzlies will travel to Denver for their 5:00pm contest with Metro State.

Recently For Adams State Women's Basketball:
The Grizzlies are currently on an eight game losing streak and have yet to beat anyone in Division II. Colorado Christian had their way with Adams on December 30th with a huge 78-39 win. The Grizzlies would drop a heartbreaker to Chadron State on New Year's Eve 59-60 the following night. Adams State is now 1-10, (0-8 RMAC). The lone victory came against NAIA level's Northern New Mexico College.

About The University of Colorado At Colorado Springs:
The Mountain Lions are 9-4, (6-1 RMAC) for the season. They currently sit at second place in the RMAC standings behind only No. 9 ranked CSU-Pueblo. The Mountain Lions are currently 6-1 in the last seven games. The only conference loss came at the hands of Regis by a 59-67 score on December 10th. UCCS is led by do-it-all senior Brittany Hernandez who averages 16.1 points, 7.9 rebounds, has 16 three's, and has blocked 15 shots.

Last Meeting: The Grizzlies lost the only meeting with the Mountain Lions last season 58-72.
On January 2nd, 2016 the Mountain Lions cruised to an easy victory over the Grizzlies. In that game, Hernandez had 20 points and 10 rebounds to record a double-double. The Grizzlies were led by the trio of DeShea Wilkes, Cydney McHenry, and Lena Jaycox as each scored 14 points.

About Metropolitan State:
The Roadrunners are not nearly as dominant, but still respectable at 8-6, (4-3 RMAC). The team is 2-2 in their last four games. Northern New Mexico is a common out of conference opponent for both teams. MSUD stomped NNMC 78-53 only two days after the Grizzlies were upset by them in a home exhibition game in November. The leaders of the Roadrunners will be Georgia Ohdorf and Emily Hartegan who both average just over 13 points and 7 rebounds per game.

Last Meeting: The teams met on New Year's Day of last year in an unflattering way. Adams State stayed competitive for the most part aside from the third quarter where production slowed to a crawl. The Grizzlies were outscored by 13 points in the frame. The 13 points equaled their deficit in all the other quarters combined. ASU mustered just 7 points in the third quarter and set the stage to fall behind by as much as 30 points in the fourth. The final that day was 71-45 Metro.

Looking Ahead: The Grizzlies will make their return home on January 13th-14th as they host a pair of South Dakota Schools. The game against the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology will take place at 5:30pm on January 13th and the contest with Black Hills State is set for 5:30pm on January 14th.
