ALAMOSA, Colo. (January 6th, 2017) – The Adams State University wrestling team opens up their home schedule Saturday against No.18 Fort Hays State University in Plachy Hall at 2:00pm.
Recently For Adams State Wrestling:
The Grizzlies are 0-1, (0-1 RMAC) on the season having lost to Colorado Mesa yesterday 36-14. Although the team has only wrestled an individual team once this season, they have been busy with several tournaments. At the Cowboy open in Laramie, Wyoming,
Tuli Laulu won the entire 285 pound bracket and was named RMAC wrestler of the week. At the University of Nebraska at Kearney tournament,
Isaac Lopez and Richard Bencomo took 3
rd in their respective weight classes.
Martin Ramirez also has a 3
rd place finish this season at the Bob Smith open in Hays, Kansas.
About Fort Hays State:
The Tigers are currently 0-1, (0-1 MIAA) having lost to Lindenwood 25-18. The team is still ranked No. 18 nationally. In Fort Hays' handful of tournaments, they have been impressive. In five tournaments, the Tigers have had 8 champions and 21 placers. They also took third place as a team at the Bob Smith open. The team will be led by senior Jon Inman who has been an NCAA Qualifier for the past three years and has a 38-4 record. Inman was preseason ranked at No. 4 for the entire nation at the 184 pound weight class entering this season. Last season Jon finished 5
th in the NCAA Tournament and earned All-American honors.
Last Meeting: The Grizzlies faced the Tigers last season in a 28-14 losing effort. On January 9
th, 2016 the Adams State University Grizzlies traveled to Kansas for a dual against Fort Hays State University.
Martin Ramirez,
Koery Windham,
Dakota Bencomo, and
Tuli Laulu were all victorious on that day, but big losses and a forfeit was ultimately the decisive factor in a 14 point loss.
Looking Ahead: The Grizzlies will travel back to Kearney, Nebraska for the second time this season on January 14
th. The Grizzlies will compete with Newman University, California Baptist University, and Lindenwood University starting at 9:00am.
