DENVER - The Adams State Men's soccer team broke the school record for wins in a season (7) with the victory over Regis, 1-0, on Sunday afternoon. The win snapped a four-game winless streak.
It took a little more than regulation to find a victor in the matchup between Regis University and Adams State. After a few seconds into the overtime period, the Rangers were called for a penalty inside the box.
Ruben Molinar stepped up to potentially end the game and set a new school record for wins in a season for the Grizzlies. Molinar sent a shot to the right side of the net as the goalkeeper dove left as the Grizzlies would go on to win.
The first half was played pretty evenly as both defenses played lights out. Regis held the shot advantage, 7-4. The second half was more of the same, however, The Grizzlies offense dominated in terms of shots during the second half, outshooting the Rangers, 18-15, heading into overtime.
The Grizzlies defense smothered the Rangers offense throughout the game despite allowing 12 corner kicks to the Grizzlies one. Both teams combined for 30 fouls and four yellow cards. With the loss, Regis drops to 4-6 in conference play.
The Grizzlies improve to 4-5-1 in conference play and 7-6-1 overall. The Grizzlies broke the Adams State Men's Soccer team record in wins for a season with seven. Adams State will look to continue its momentum into a big conference matchup against Colorado School of Mines. The Orediggers defeated the Grizzlies last week, 6-1.
The Grizzlies next two games will be during homecoming week on Friday and Sunday. Friday's game will be at the ASU Soccer Field at noon.
