MSOC | Grizzlies Fall Short Against Orediggers

ALAMOSA - The Adams State Men's soccer team matched up with No.15-ranked Colorado School of Mines for the second time in a week this Friday in Alamosa. The Friday afternoon contest began Adams State's homecoming weekend.

The Grizzlies came up short during the first matchup with the Orediggers last week, 6-1.

The Orediggers struck first as John Haist sent a shot into the back of the net in the 24th minute. Haist has the fourth most goals scored in the nation. The Grizzlies countered with a goal of their own in the 36th minute when Israel Varela found the back of the net after a perfect cross from Leo Barba. It was Varela's first goal of the season. The score remained tied in the first half.

The second half began pretty evenly. Both teams had their fair share of opportunities. Haist would break the tie with his second goal of the day in the 79th minute. The Orediggers would add to their lead when Trevor Amann scored in the 86th minute. The Grizzlies remained shutout throughout the rest of the game.

Both teams combined for 17 shots on goal. There were 17 fouls in the game and three yellow cards.

The Grizzlies drop to a 4-6-1 record in the RMAC and 7-7-1 overall. The Orediggers remain on top of the division with a 10-1 record.

Adams State will look to bounce back this Sunday when they take on Regis University for senior night. The Grizzlies defeated the Rangers last week, 1-0. The game will be played at the ASU soccer field at 2:30 PM.
