DURANGO – Adams State's Men's soccer team was defeated in a close contest, 2-1, to Fort Lewis on Wednesday. ASU defeated the Skyhawks earlier in the season 2-1.

The Skyhawks dominated the first half of play, scoring a goal while shutting out the Grizzlies. In the 26
th minute, Max Fuentes drilled a pass over the Grizzly defenders for an easy look to Jean Meibohm for the goal. Only seconds into the second half, the Skyhawks capitalized once again. Nicolas Perez sent a shot from 35 yards out that ricocheted off of the crossbar and into the net.

The Grizzlies were not going down without a fight. In the 68
th minute,
Marcus Wilson had a free kick opportunity in which he made the most of. Wilson scored to cut the Skyhawk lead to one.

The rest of the game was a defensive battle. The Grizzlies had six more shots in the second half that failed to find the back of the net. Freshman goalkeeper, Peter Byrne, had four saves on the day.

Both teams combined for 22 fouls. There were no penalties in the game.

The loss drops Adams State to 4-8-1 in the conference. With one game remaining, Adams State need help from other teams to make the final RMAC tournament spot. Adams needs Regis University to have a loss and a tie and the most against UCCS and CSU-Pueblo, while Adams needs to win against South Dakota School of Mines & Technology in the final game of the season. In the case that Regis losses both, Adams would enter a tiebreaker with CSU-Pueblo, which would favor the Grizzlies who defeated the Pack earlier this season.

The Grizzlies will hit the road for Sunday's matchup in Rapid City, South Dakota. The contest will begin at 11 AM.
