MSOC | Grizzlies Tie Cougars after Double Overtime

LAKEWOOD, Colo.– It took the full 90 minutes and two overtimes to conclude Friday afternoon's matchup between Adams State University and Colorado Christian University. Eventually, the contest came to a 2-2 draw.

Colorado Christian dominated the first half of play scoring two goals to give the Cougars a secure lead. Blake Goodale and Eduard Shevchuk both would each score their third goals of the season for the Cougars before the end of the first period.

The Grizzlies stormed back with two goals of their own to tie it all up before the first overtime period. Adams State got on the board just six minutes into the second half from a Marcus Wilson goal. It was Wilson's first goal of the season. In the 67th minute, Howard Samuel would play equalizer as he would score off of a free kick for his second goal of the year.

The draw is a more astounding outcome because shortly after Wilson scored, he was ejected from the game. The game-tying goal is the first short-handed goal of the season for Adams.

"Disappointing result today," said head coach Brett Bentley. "The goals we allowed were self-inflicted, so it's disappointing to drop important points on the road over avoidable mistakes.  However, playing down a man for as long as we did showed a lot of maturity and mental fortitude.  We'll look to get back on track on Sunday at home."

The Grizzlies goalkeeper, Austin Baumeister, kept the Cougars offense silent in the second half with an incredible seven saves. Both offenses were unable to get anything going for the remainder of the second half and both overtimes. The game would end in a 2-2 draw.

Both teams combined for a staggering 37 fouls, three yellow cards, and one red card. The shootout in Lakewood included 37 total shots with 18 being on goal.

Adams State moves to 6-4-1 and 3-3-1 in conference play. They will come back home for a matchup with Metropolitan State University Roadrunners (4-6). The Grizzlies are 4-2 in games played at home.

The game will be this Sunday at noon at the ASU soccer field.
