ALAMOSA – The Adams State University women's basketball team (2-6 overall, 0-6 RMAC) will face the Colorado Christian Cougars and the Chadron State Eagles in Plachy Hall next weekend, December 29 and 30. Both games are set to kick-off at 5:30 P.M. Friday's game will serve as the first installment in the 'Fill the Stocking' charity drive, while Saturday's will serve as the annual SLV night.
Recently In Adams State Women's Basketball:
The Grizzlies have recorded a tough start to their season this year with only two total wins, neither of those in RMAC play. In their last away game, ASU fought a tough battle in Salt Lake City against Westminster College; however fell by ten points with a final score of 56-66. Despite their losses, the Grizzlies are constantly improving upon their defense and sharing the ball to work together as a team.
About Colorado Christian:
The CCU Cougars (3-8 overall, 1-5 RMAC) have a similar record to the Grizzlies this season with only one more conference win. Early in the season, the women Cougars tallied their first RMAC win against the Yellow Jackets of Black Hills State with a final score of 74-68. In their last match-up, they faced the Metropolitan State Roadrunners and fell 43-56.
Last Meeting:
The Grizzlies met the Cougars twice last season. In their first match-up on December 30, ASU fell to CCU with a final score of 39-78. Despite the loss, Maddy Merschel led the group of returners with five points. On February 17 of this year, the Grizzlies faced the Cougars again at home, losing in 73-87 in a comeback heartbreaker on senior night.
About Chadron:
The Chadron Eagles (3-9 overall, 1-5 RMAC) have an almost identical record to the Cougars with only one more loss on their schedule. Although Chadron has struggled in RMAC play, their one win comes from the defeat of CCU on December 4. This toughly contested match ended with a final score of 80-69 in the Eagles' favor. In their most recent conference game, Chadron fell to Black Hills State University, 46-65.
Last Meeting:
The Grizzlies faced Chadron twice last season both in tough match-ups. First, on the road in Nebraska, ASU fell to the Eagles by one point, with a final score of 59-60. They met them again at home on January 20 of this year, losing 66-78.
Lejla Hadzialijagic had an impressive night, recording 12 points, one block, and two steals.
